It was a pleasant day yesterday so yard work was the plan for the day. Unfortunately I needed mulch but there’s plenty of rotting wood in my swamp nextdoor and that’s kinda mulch so....
There was a old wood pile that’s been sitting here since before I moved in 20 years ago. After about an hour of digging and chopping up rotting wood I hit something really solid.
Just a old v8 I think but wait a minute.... what’s up with the angled intake Boss. Did I just dig up a 426 wedge? That can’t be can it?
Its really close! Going out today to see if I get some numbers off of it.
And the garden even came out ok but the price was right. I wonder how much more crap is buried back in here. One of my first Oppo posts was me digging out a old van of here.
More to come

Well that certainly is odd

Hard to tell from your photos of dirt colored long downed wood. Do you know what kind of trees are in that pile? The plants you will put it in might not like some kinds of wood robbing/adding acid or or components to the soil.

Yeah I thought that too. Mrs Vondon said it’s my garbage bed so go for it.
It looked real sad and we didn't want to go to the store for mulch so I'll chalk it up to a experiment.

Oh, THAT’s where I left it.......

Certainly looks like a B or RB BB
Mopa
r. B should have stamp on pad pass side
next to the
dizzy w/displacement and date. RB is on drivers side. On the bottom will be stampin
g w/part # and date c
odes. Handy chart:

Sweet! Thanks for the info, much better than what I dug up.
Going back out with some brushes to see if I can get some numbers.

Nothing a bit of wd40 and sandpaper can’t fix

Looking a little closer, appears to be a B engine (no raised pad on drivers side) , so 383/400. The figure 8 water passages put at late 70+, bell housing looks like an early pattern (up to 75). So guessing a 71-74 383/400, most likely 400 since 71 was the last year for the 383. Curious what you find.

Well it’s clear what you need to do... you need to completely restore the engine and the vehicle it was originally in.

It's got a crank, maybe a lamp also.

That's pretty wild!

Wow, what a find! How cool would it be if the block was actually usable after a good decking, rebore, and hot-tank?

Its pretty rough, no oil pan but the crank is there.

Are you sure this isn’t a teaser for an episode of Roadkill?
